May I Help You? ~ March 7

May I Help You?

No, thanks.

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30

I often hear—I’m sure you’ve heard it too—“Jesus has done so much for you! What will you do for Him?” My answer is twofold; nothing, and everything.

It’s like I said yesterday about grace giving us license to sin—it doesn’t. But the fact of it is, it’s not about what we do, or think we should do, it’s about what we believe. If we believe Jesus died on the cross, rose on the third day, and took our sins upon Himself, then it is, indeed, finished. It is finished, and we need do nothing more than believe in Him.

Jesus doesn’t need our help. We cannot lead others to Him. He said so! He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Salvation is up to each individual, and it is not a matter of choice, it is a matter of accepting the invitation. And the invitation is open-ended. He doesn’t pressure us, or demand we respond, He merely lets us know, He’s waiting with open arms.

No, Jesus doesn’t need our help. But He wants nothing more than to love us, and to help us know His everlasting joy and peace.

He asks, “May I help you?”

I answer, “Yes, please.”
