Cherish Is the Word
I use to describe…
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Cherish: To feel or hold great love for.
Perhaps this word is one that describes—defines—God’s love better than most. We know His love for us is unconditional, but somehow even knowing His love knows no bounds is not enough to convince us how much He cherishes us.
Another source defines cherish as; to protect and care for lovingly. BAM! That one nails how God loves us!
I am reminded of a popular song from my teen years—“Cherish”, by the Association. It’s one of those songs which could be turned into a worship song quite easily. This part in particular seems fitting for what I’m trying to convey:
You don’t know how many times I’ve wished that I could Mold you into someone who could Cherish me as much as I cherish you
God does indeed cherish us, and most of all He wants us to know how much He loves and cherishes us, but I believe He also desires that we love Him as much as He loves us. He wants us to cherish Him as much as He cherishes us.
The song ends very simply, and it says what I believe God says to each of us, and I think He’s hoping we feel the same about Him:
And I do Cherish you Cherish is the word
