We complicate our lives by thinking we need things, and it doesn’t apply to just possessions. The same is true when we’re attempting to live a godly life, in that we tend to pile do’s and don’ts upon ourselves that aren’t necessary. Jesus didn’t say His yoke is easy and His burden is light just because it sounded good in the context of His sermon; He said it because it is fact.
Jesus doesn’t want us to try and learn His ways, He wants us to allow Him to instill His ways within us. We will never be righteous of our own accord or actions, because His righteousness is a gift. We can’t earn it. We can’t buy it. But… we can keep it forever!
I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:8
