This weekend, most Americans will celebrate what was once called Independence Day, but has since been re-named, The 4th of July. We’ll have cookouts, party on the boat or deck, drink way too much, watch meaningless firework displays, and most of us won’t give a thought to the fact the things this holiday were created for us to celebrate–our independence and freedoms–are no more. And, the sad thing about the loss of those things is, they weren’t taken from us; we gave them away. Sadder still, many Americans–maybe most of them–don’t even realize (or refuse to recognize) … they’re gone.
