We are the proverbial lump of clay, and clay cannot mold itself into the beautiful vessel. The vessel must be shaped and made for the purpose it will be used. And, not every vessel will serve the same purpose.
I do not believe we can by conscious effort or intent of will become the person God wants us to be. When we commit our lives to God and His purpose, we submit fully, knowing that without His powerful shaping of us, we can be nothing. We are but a lump of clay, but in His eyes He sees us as we will be—a beautiful vessel, filled with His love.
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
