The Shoe Whisperer

This will sound strange—especially coming from me—but when does weird cross the line?

A few years back, I was walking the dog, minding my own business, and here comes this kid walking down the sidewalk toward me… pulling a shoe.He was probably ten or eleven years old—normal-looking kid—except for the fact he had a rope tied to a shoe, and was dragging it along behind him. The shoe was flopping and bouncing around and it was, to say the least, a comical sight.

I smiled at him. “Walkin’ your shoe?”

“Yep,” he said. He spoke in almost a whisper, a conspiratorial tone in the one word.

I laughed and shook my head, thinking it was something I might have done when I was his age. Hell, I might’ve even done it now if I’d thought of it first.

I turned and watched him go down the sidewalk, the shoe bouncing merrily along behind him, and I thought, who knows, maybe it’ll catch on. “Yeah right,” I said aloud. “Maybe Pokemon will make a comeback, too.”
