I remember hearing the old hymn, I Surrender All, many times when I was young. I certainly can’t say I’ve surrendered all, but I am working on it.
In the past I stubbornly clung to my “freedom”, not realizing that by not surrendering totally to Christ, I continued to bind myself to the lawlessness of my inherent human nature.

He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23

Our world can be dark, but there is light. Our world can be chaotic, but there is peace. I have found that the light and peace are always there, and all we have to do is turn toward them and focus on them. Too many souls quit the search and refuse to turn away from the chaotic darkness. I wish it wasn’t so. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m writing a piece for my blog entitled, “Studies Show”, and I’d like to include a study of my own in the article. Please answer the poll question below with either A, B, C, or D. DO NOT include a comment with your answer and do not add a comment other than your answer. If a comment is included other than A,B,C, or D, the comment will be deleted and counted as D.
Question: Which of the following would likely result in a physical fight?
- A white male in his early fifties walks into a bar full of liberals and shouts, “Obama was the worst president EVER!”
- A white male in his early fifties walks into a bar full of conservatives and shouts, “Trump is the worst president EVER!”
- A white male in his early fifties wearing a romper and his hair done in a man-bun walks into a bar full of bikers and doesn’t say a word.
- None of the above

Re-posting this one today just for fun. I love to put one over on my longtime pal, Gary Williams, and… well, we need somebody to laugh at!
Marbles In My Pocket ~ The Official Blog of Charles L. Mashburn ~ Poems, Short Stories, and random thoughts from the author of "Be Still... and know that I am God"
My high school pal and teammate, Gary Williams, likes to poke fun at me about some of the adventures I write about. I don’t mind; the old fart is getting along in years, and his memory isn’t that sharp anymore, so I let him prattle on. I know he doesn’t mean any harm, and when it comes to being quick witted, he’s pretty much a non-threat. But enough about that; let me tell you how me and ol’ Gare squared off for the tennis championship one fine spring day.

Some of you (maybe most of you) probably think I’ve gone off the deep end, and… you’re absolutely correct! As pertains to my trust and faith, I’ve gone off the high dive the way I used to at the town swimming pool as a child. I’ve got a big smile on my face, my knees are tucked up under my chin with my arms wrapped around them, and I’m about to make a big splash! Back then, it was called a cannonball, and my intent was to thoroughly soak everyone standing nearby.
This time, it’s not water I hope to soak those around me with; it’s love, peace, joy, hope, and all the good things God continues to pour out on me. So if you don’t want to get drenched in some of those things, you better stand back!
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Isn’t it even you, before our Lord Jesus at his coming? 1Thessalonians 2:19

I woke up this morning with a vivid dream still fresh in my mind. In the dream, my dad was with me, and he was trying to help me get some papers filed regarding my upcoming move. He was very kind, concerned, and helpful, and I had the thought—in the dream just be before I woke up—He’s a pretty good guy. Read the rest of this entry »

When we love God, we will receive the knowledge He reveals to us and we will not be deceived. His wisdom is pure and contains no artificial ingredients. It’s the real thing—not tampered with and never diluted.

“In Accordance With Fact or Reality,” is the dictionary’s definition of “true.” And so I’ve come to the conclusion the word “true” is no longer a reality because, the fact is… truth has become a personal and individual thing. A choice. Read the rest of this entry »
