One of my favorite songs is, You Raise Me Up by Celtic Woman, and when I hear it, I think of the wonderful mother God blessed me with. She raised me up with her prayers—all my life—and placed me on God’s shoulders. She may not be perfect, but to me and God, she’s awesome and beautiful, and all her life she has shared a song of love and joy with the world around her. His spirit is within her, and she has produced much fruit, and so, I pray:

But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

We should enjoy our lives no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, and we should, if possible, work at something that brings us happiness. Yes, “There is a time for everything, and a season for everything under heaven.” But as they say, “All roads lead home,” and “Home is where the heart is.” When our heart is with God, our home with Him awaits us.

So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him? Ecclesiastes 3:22

When it comes to God’s peace and joy, we have the power to choose how things will, or will not, affect us and how we will react to them.

When we turn away from worldly things and meditate on God’s word, we will find Him, and we will know peace beyond our wildest dreams, and love we can’t even imagine. And we will share it with others . . . because that’s what God wants us to do.
But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

I say I’m fearless and strong, and I try to encourage others to be fearless and strong, too. But when someone I love is hurting—whether it is spiritually, mentally, physically, or a combination of any/all of those—it’s hard for me to tell them to be fearless and strong. I often wish I could take their pain upon myself, but then I wonder if I could even handle it.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

It appears truth has become what we want to believe in order to justify our actions. Apparently, the end justifies the means; if a lie gets us the results we want, then it’s our truth. But people aren’t blind; we might fool them temporarily, but they will soon know the truth of our hearts by how we live. It’s been said our children learn more from watching how we live our lives than they learn from what we tell them. I agree.

When we love Jesus, we will live in the light, and He—The Truth—will set us free!
If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth. 1John 1:6

I’m a positive person, but sometimes my big but gets in the way. I’ll start off thinking it’s going to be a good day, then say, “But! What if it rains?” I let my big but lower my expectations by anticipating something bad.

We mustn’t allow our faith to be diminished by a big but! We must proclaim our trust in God and kick buts out of our vocabulary! God is for us, and there’s no but about it! I could go on, but… I think you get my point.
He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Matthew 13:58

My Uncle Marvin used to take us to the lake to water ski, fish, and swim. It seemed to take forever to get to there, and my cousin Ed and I would sit in the backseat, noses touching the window, watching for the first glimpse of the lake. When we’d see it, we’d shout, “There it is!” I compare the joy of seeing Jesus return to that first glimpse of the lake.

Desiring to love God with all our heart and soul should be our quest—our reason for living—and if ever we feel as though we’ve failed, or feel we don’t love Him as much as we should, we should not despair, but press on.

And we must continue to strain toward what is ahead, forgetting what is behind. When our focus is on God, He guides us to where He wants us to be.
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Philippians 3:13

Our pasts have molded us into the persons we are, and today and tomorrow will continue to shape us. In our youth, we were influenced by parents, teachers, friends, and others. But as adults, we are responsible for our own lives, and we’re shaped by our choices. Too often, we regret our choices and blame ourselves for our lot in life. Other times, we place the blame on those who helped form us during those early years. Sometimes, we even blame God.

Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.
2 Corinthians 12:10
