A Box of Moon Pies

This is the short story I wrote in 1998 that inspired the poem, “She Sat Alone”. It’s rather long–almost 4000 words–so if you’re interested in reading it, I suggest printing it and curling up in your favorite chair, or maybe taking it to bed with you if you like to read in bed like I do.
