Just Another Duffer

One of my golfing pals (a duffer, like me) used to say we needed to go to the driving range and practice. I’d answer, “Bad idea. We’ll just be practicing doing it wrong; what we need is golf lessons.”

When we remain in God’s word, our heavenly coach will see to it our practice is done correctly. If our minds are set on Jesus, and we ask Him for knowledge and understanding, it will be given to us.

A duffer quote

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.  John 15:7

The Sound of Love

sunrise-12-2-2016-quoteTime with God is like drinking coffee. We sip from the cup of hot brew, and when it begins to cool, we refill it so the heat returns. In the mornings, I refill my heart with the warmth of God’s love. This rekindles the fires within me—the desire to know Him and be a part of His world and His plan.

It’s just me and God in the morning. We talk and we listen—I to Him and He to me. I read, and I write; He watches and smiles. I’m like a child in my search for His knowledge.

I lay my requests before Him each morning, then wait expectantly as I go about my day. Sometimes… I can feel His loving gaze.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 8-25-11

In this morning’s Daily Encouragement, I talked about how hot it has been here and how long it’s been since we had any rain. I said God would cool things off, and He would send rain—in His timing. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 7-24-11

I was looking at my blog statistics a few minutes ago, and I noticed something interesting. The statistics tell me how many people have visited my blog, and what posts they have read. The thing I noticed was a lot of people missed church today. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 7-23-11

In today’s Daily Encouragement I said, “I have made the statement many times, “I am just the pencil.” I do not write these encouragements to you from a knowledgeable point of view, because the reality of the situation is I have little knowledge of God’s word and His principles. What I do have is a sincere desire to encourage others to love Him.” Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 7-22-11

The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He awakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. Isaiah 50:4

This verse from today’s Daily Encouragement is one of the best verses I have ever come across. To think that God awakens me each morning, and not only that, awakens my ear to listen like one being taught is an awesome revelation to me. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 7-21-11

In this morning’s Daily Encouragement I said, “I get up early—sometimes so early it worries Sherry—and I am almost always excited to start my day here at this desk, pounding these keys. I am most excited when I write these encouragements.”

I do love writing the encouragements best, but I love writing all the other things, too. Poems, short stories, fiction, true life, novels; you name it, if I’m writing it I am one happy ol’ dude! Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 7-20-11

In this morning’s encouragement I said, “We all struggle to understand what life is about; we get confused by all the information thrown at us from so many directions, and we begin to wonder what is true and what is deception.”

Football is very much a game of deception, and I learned some life lessons playing it. Read the rest of this entry »
