I’m Not Worthy
In this day when truth seems to have lost its luster, there are two sides to the coin. On one side there’s the ego, typically an opinion of one’s self which hasn’t been earned, and, in most cases, isn’t deserved. On the other side of the proverbial coin is the tendency most of us have to deem ourselves unworthy. Both are lies, but, surprisingly, the latter has more truth to it than the other.
We’re not worthy of God’s unconditional love, and there’s nothing we can do to change that fact. Except, that is, to believe Jesus is the son of God.
And so, not because we have earned it—not because of what we might say, think, or do—we are worthy, because God has given us the gift of grace. And, once we accept His gift, when He looks at us all He sees… is His awesome Son.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

I’m writing another book. It’s about love. And this morning, as I discussed what I’ve written so far with Sherry, an old country song slipped into my mind; “Still”, by Bill Anderson. As lines from the song began to drift through my mind, I told Sherry I felt as though God was singing them to me. Of course, I went straight to the internet and found the song, and as I listened to it, I cried. I cried because I can’t understand how God could still love me after all these years and all I’ve done. But He does.

Still, by Bill Anderson. <— Click here to listen to the song

A young man who had the world in his hands allowed the coddling lies of drugs to steal it from him. He entered the darkest depths of addiction and nearly lost a promising career in sports, his family, and his life. God rescued him, gave him a second chance, and allowed him to regain all he’d thrown away, except that is, the years of his life he’d wasted. Those wasted days could not be undone.

No matter how often we fail, we can turn to God and begin anew. He never gives up on us.
Whatever demons might be chasing you:
“Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and I will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 1:8

It’s easy to love people who do things the way we think they should. And it’s also easy to not love those who don’t do things our way.
God’s love for us doesn’t waiver based on our actions. He gives us room for error and forgives us when we don’t measure up. We can be like Him when it comes to forgiving and loving others—even the hard ones—if we love Him and realize how much He loves us. We can’t cause our love to increase and overflow, but God can, and all we have to do is let Him.
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 1 Thessalonians 3:12

Why is it so difficult for us to forgive? Sometimes, we think we’ve forgiven a person, but we hold on to a fragment of the hurt or anger they caused When we hold on to any piece—no matter how small—of resentment, hurt or anger, it could be we’re not truly forgiving them at all.

… Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13

We lived in a small neighborhood on Lake Travis for several years, and we enjoyed having gatherings down by the lake, and parties at our house. The events always seemed to start with very few people there and grow as the afternoon or evening wore on. The trickling arrival of guests would always bother me, and I’d fret that no one was going to come. I eventually got used to the pattern, knowing plenty of guests would show up.

And, He knows some will hesitate to accept His invite, but He also knows those He sent a personal invitation to will eventually arrive. I was one of the stragglers, and I could kick myself for not getting here sooner. It’s an awesome party!
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.” Matthew 22:2-3

The Bible often seems repetitive. Every story, every parable, every psalm seems to say the same thing, only different; God loves us unconditionally.
We will never be perfect, but we will be what God intends for us to be, and we are part of His plan. If we just love Him and receive all His wonderful spiritual gifts, we will be made into His image, and He will use us to do His will.

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24
