Turn the Page

One of my favorite songs from the early seventies is, “Turn The Page”, by Bob Seger. He begins the song with, “On a long and lonesome highway….”. Then finishes the first stanza with, “And you don’t feel much like ridin’, you just wish the trip were through.”

There was a time I envisioned myself zooming down an empty highway in the dark of night, alone, and wishing the trip would end. It seemed the faster and farther I went, the darker it got, the lonelier I felt, and the more futile and hopeless life seemed. But something in the back of my mind kept saying, “You can get off this road. Take the next exit and go east, toward the risen Son.”

It is that simple…

To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. Acts 26:18

Life In A Bobsled

Sometimes I find myself in a rut; so steeped in routine that each morning I feel like I’m in a bobsled race, tucked into the sled—my life—speeding around the same course day after day, every turn familiar; every straightaway zipping by too quickly.

But I’m learning to remind myself each morning that God is with me in truth and love, and His grace, mercy and peace are mine for the asking.

Maybe it is the same old sled and the same old ride, but you control the brakes. So slow down and watch for sudden blessings. You never know what’s around the next curve.

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s son, will be with us in truth and love. 2 John 1:3

If I Got What I Deserved…

My past is full of ignorance, foolishness, and mistakes, and I’m not out of the woods yet. But I’ve found a well-beaten path, and I’m going to follow it wherever it leads me.

Finding the path didn’t happen all of a sudden, and trying to follow is not the easiest thing to do, but it seems to get easier every day. It all just seemed to happen gradually, and one thing seems to lead to the next.

As God pours His grace on me, I am continuously amazed that He never gives me more than I can handle. I think He knows most of us could not comprehend His goodness and love if it were doled out to us in doses too large for us to handle, so He pours it over us a little at a time, allowing our faith and love to grow at a pace we can handle.

5-25-17 1 quote

Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.1Timothy 1:14

The Struggle Is Over!

Grace is a gift, and the simple definition of grace is we no longer have to struggle to remember and obey God’s laws, or struggle to live a godly, moral life, because He will put it in our heart and mind to do so. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s All About Grace

pd-9-quote

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.  1 Corinthians 15:10

It Is That Simple

Many times, we have difficulty following God and becoming who He intends for us to be because we think we have to do things to impress Him. I’m convinced all God wants us to do is love Him, and when we love Him it opens our hearts so He’s able to fill us with His love and we can accomplish our part of His plan.

Many of you are probably shaking your heads and saying, “It’s just not that simple”. I think it is. I believe we can be so full of love for God we won’t be able to get enough of Him. With each passing day, we will seek more, trust more, and do more for God. Not because we choose to, but because the love of God within us, given to us when we received His grace, causes us to.

Through him and for his names sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. Romans 1:5

Daily Encouragement – 4/4

April 4

The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 1Timothy 1:14

It seems to me grace, as Paul uses it in this verse, is synonymous with forgiveness. I think it implies much more than forgiveness, but in the abundance spoken of here, I believe it is more about forgiveness than anything else it might include. The abundance Paul refers to was necessary due to the amount of bad he had previously done. As I said yesterday, I can certainly relate to that. God is still pouring out His grace on me!

I think there is a message in the fact Paul does not use the word abundantly with regard to faith and love. I think the reason he doesn’t is because when it comes to faith and love, God gives us the full measure of both. I firmly believe He does not give us partial love—not ever—and when we accept His full portion of love, how can our faith not be as complete? In other words, once we understand God’s love for us is unconditional, our faith in Him will be unconditional, too.

I love it when a plan comes together!
