It Was Hot… ah’ight?

Okay, it was one a them comedy of errors y’all hear so much about. It all started when I left my good hat in College Station Wednesday. I have other hats, but they don’t fit as good, and that can lead to instances such as the one I’m about to impart.

It was a hunert degrees here today, but that was NOT gonna keep yours-truly off the golf course. I put on one a my spare hats, and off I went. Well, as luck would have it–adding to the COE I mentioned above, I had gotten a haircut Tuesday, and as I began to sweat, and my hair–what’s left of it–got wet, the hat kept sliding down. It was irritating, mainly because it kept pushing my ears down, and I looked like a really old Alfred E. Neuman. Anyone who knows me, knows I need no assistance in that department.

Looks purty good, eh?

Looks purty good, eh?

So… I had this bright idea to tuck my ears under my hat, thus solving two problems at once; no protruding ears, and the hat fit better. The thing is, my ears did not want to be tucked under my hat, and that’s where the trouble started.

I pulled up to the number sixteen tee box, and got all set up to hit my drive. As luck would have it, my left ear decided to break free just as I started my downswing. That threw me off balance, I missed the dang ball completely, and fell flat on my butt. The only good thing about the situation, is there are no houses near the number sixteen tee box, and nobody else was crazy enough to be out playing golf today. So… nobody saw me.

Well, Blow Me Down!

Almost anywhere you live there is something challenging about the weather. Some places are brutally cold in winter, others are scorching hot in the summer, some are prone to flooding, and still others are constantly on the lookout for hurricanes when they’re in season. But tornado alley takes the prize. For the life of me, I don’t know why people live there, and I think a lot of folks in Oklahoma City will agree with me on that these days. The Texas panhandle is at the lower end of tornado alley. I was born there, but ain’t no way I’m going back. Read the rest of this entry »

Hot Golf!

I know, it’s too hot to be playing golf, but I have to get some exercise somehow, and if I go early in the morning, it’s tolerable. So I did! Read the rest of this entry »

The Lago Vista Loop

Since I’m on a weather kick these last few days, thought I’d throw this one back at you.

It seems to me much of our lives and conversation center around weather. It also seems to me we are most of the time not pleased with whatever the weather might be at any given moment. Though it might be sunny, and the temperature pleasant, we complain the wind is too strong, or the humidity too high. Weather, it seems, must be perfect, or it is bad. Read the rest of this entry »

Yeah, But It’s A Dry Heat!

Okay, Okay, I get it! But what’s the point? Why is it when someone—myself, for instance—who has lived in the desert southwest, mentions how much higher the temperature is there compared to say College Station, Texas, the answer is always the same; “Yeah, but it’s a dry heat.” Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, But It’s A Dry Heat

I gotta tell ya folks, a person doesn’t have to look far to find a subject to write about for his blog. FaceBook will serve up some doozies on a pretty regular basis. Take this little chat I had with an old classmate from Arizona this morning. How could I resist? Read the rest of this entry »
