Today Day!

By the powers not likely to be vested in me, I hereby declare this to be Today Day. Today will be dedicated and set Today 6-10-2016 quoteaside to observe and celebrate the singular fact that Today is unlike any other day preceding it, or to come, and thus should receive special recognition and honor. Oh, Rats!

Oh, rats!

Oh, rats!

The golf course in our community isn’t a bad course, but it certainly isn’t a good one. Due to some past management problems, the course has kinda gone to pot. Actually, the course “was” much to my liking, because it doesn’t get much play (except for the requisite old guys group all courses seem to have that dominate the morning hours every day) and so, I pretty much had the place to myself in the afternoons—especially when it’s hot out. Especially Moms!

be still coverMany of us live our lives searching for our purpose, sometimes thinking surely this isn’t all there is. I’ve come to realize, yes, this is all there is, and… it’s enough. Not only is it enough, but it’s good, and whether we realize it or not, each of us is doing what God put us here to do.

We spend our whole lives wanting and trying to, be somebody. Then, at some point in our life (hopefully) we realize we are somebody and always have been. God created each of us, and He placed each and every person in our path that needed to be there for our benefit or for theirs. I contend we cannot even fathom the lives we’ve touched and the lives that have touched us as we’ve wandered this planet.

Each of us has a purpose and our lives have meaning. You are somebody! Especially you, Mom! Happy Mother’s Day!

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Better Than A Thousand Days

My pizza crew!

One day with my sons is better than a thousand days anywhere else.

I have pictures of my sons when they were youngsters, taken at the pizza place I managed for awhile.

They’re wearing the funny hats shirts, and aprons I had to wear to work, and grinning ear-to-ear, quite obviously thrilled to be at work with Dad. Read the rest of this entry »

I Just Needed More Time

I’m sure y’all have heard the saying, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make teach to fishit drink.” Well, I have another one for you: “You can take a man to the lake, but you can’t teach him how to fish—if he won’t listen.” (I made up that last one after I spent a weekend with a couple of “tournament” fishermen one Fourth of July.) If It Feels Like…

So… you ask a weather forecaster what the temperature is, and he/she walks outside to see what it “feels” like? Wouldn’t their estimation be skewed by what they’re wearing at the time? I mean… if it’s 25, and they walk out there wearing a swimsuit, THEN it’s definitely gonna FEEL LIKE 18! Read the rest of this entry »

It Had to Be A Sign!

I was just minding my own business this morning, washing the car and listening to the country oldies station out of Houston, when a song came on that I thought had to be a sign from above. You see, I’d been thinking I needed to call my little brother, and when the Ken Mashburn anthem began to play, well… I think you can see what I mean. I just figured there was no point in delaying it any longer. (I’ll call him after he’s had time to see this post.) Click on his name to hear the song. Any of you that know him will most heartily agree that it was written with Ken in mind.

See what I mean?

See what I mean?

A Hug & A Howdy

The high school class reunion I attended this past weekend was wonderful far and above what I thought it could be. I saw many folks I hadn’t laid eyes on in 45 years, and in most cases had no idea who they were until they told me. I quickly developed the strategy of sidling over to someone I knew could identify everyone and asking who a person was before I approached them. Brilliant! Read the rest of this entry »
