Daily Encouragement

March 22

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. Psalm 91:7-8

This may seem disconcerting at first, but if we think about it, it makes perfect sense. God is saying, as believers, we don’t have to worry or be afraid of pestilence or disease of any kind, but if we do not believe Jesus died for our sins, we will obviously not be protected. It’s pretty simple, if you ask me.

I am confident in the ability of my body to heal itself and of God’s promise to not allow pestilence to come near me; as a result, I am almost never sick. I have my own little remedies I use for most things, like colds and flu, and even for aches and pains associated with physical strain or injury.

If I feel the least little tickle of a sore throat, or the slightest sniffle, I go on the attack with vitamin C, lots of fruit juice and water, and my secret weapon—Listerene! I gargle every thirty minutes or so with the mouth wash, drink as much water and juice as I can stand, and take lots of vitamin C. Works every time! (Not to advertise for any particular brand, but I bought another brand once, and when I tried to gargle with it, I blew bubbles. What’s up with that?)

Another little secret I’ve discovered works on almost every injury, whether it’s a small cut (dumb knife!), a smashed thumb (stupid hammer!), a bruise (who put that table there?), or a muscle strain (jeesh, I used to could do that!) is movement. I’ve found when an injury occurs, if I continue to move the injured part as much as possible, it seems to lessen the swelling and soreness, and in the case of cuts, they seem to heal rapidly. I figure it probably has to do with blood circulation, but obviously I’m not a medical expert.

However, the main ingredient is faith. I firmly believe my faith is the most important ingredient in staying well and healing fast. Call me a nut, but it works for me!
