Turkey Sandwiches!

Staying with the Thanksgiving in July theme, I have to tell you, I love turkey sandwiches! Those things are better than just about anything! Only thing is, all the family and friends are usually gone and aren’t there to enjoy them with me.

I’ve often mentioned how our family would congregate on holidays when I was a child, and those were awesome times! There was love and peace in abundance, the latter being most prominent after the big feast when everyone was sprawled out watching the football game or napping. Love… well… it was everywhere and in everything we did.

…. and turkey sandwiches!

Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. Jude 1:2

Turkey All the Time!

The grocery store we shop at sells fully-cooked turkey breasts in their deli section, and every now and then, Sherry and I will buy one and fix a Thanksgiving dinner. We did so a few days ago, and it was delicious! But more than just the wonderful meal, it gave us pause to think how blessed we are that we can celebrate and give thanks on not just any day, but every day. We are blessed, and our joy is boundless.

No matter your circumstance today, I can assure you the Lord is good, He loves you, and His love endures forever; He will never leave you, nor forsake you, and His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Thanksgiving is not a one day thing, it’s an every day thing!

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100

Chill, Baby, Chill!

I’ve seen it many times over the years; on a day—Thanksgiving, for instance—that’s supposed to be fun, exciting, joyous, etc., we get so wrapped up trying to make it perfect, we stress out to the point it’s no longer any of those things. Read the rest of this entry »

Thanking Him

Hope is defined as: To desire with expectation of fulfillment. If our hope is to spend eternity with God, and He has promised this to us, we can expect our hope to be fulfilled.

Faithful is defined as: Firm in adherence to promises. To be faithful in prayer is to be constantly in conversation with God, praising Him, professing our love for Him, and thanking Him for our many blessings and promises.

Thanksgiving 1

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12

The Madden Super Bowl

When I was in Odessa this past weekend, me and Cousin Ed were laughing and telling stories about the good ol’ days. I jotted down story ideas as we talked, and one of them was the one mentioned in the title of this piece. These Madden’s aren’t related to John Madden, so this has nothing to do with video games. What’d You Do That For?

This is one of those stories that’s funny, but it’s sad, too. I’ve told you some stories about my grandma and grandpa—we called her Ma, and him Pa—but what I haven’t told you is Ma had a serious drinking problem for most of her life. She loved hard liquor, and try as we might to keep it away from her, she would manage to have a bottle stashed somewhere so she could get a little sip now and then throughout the day. She was a good grandma, in spite of the drinking, and though I don’t know what demons were chasing her, I know she loved us kids. Read the rest of this entry »
