Dodging Torpedoes!

I’m a live for today kind of guy, and that hasn’t always been a good thing. In my younger days—most of my life actually—I lived life like there was no tomorrow; full speed ahead, dodging torpedoes. Since I’ve realized how much God loves me—even when I don’t deserve it—I live for today, but in a different way.

Our world revolves around the sun, and the seasons come and go. The rain will come, but the sun will also shine. Winter gives way to spring, and the brutal summer relents to cool crisp fall. Each is good in its own way, and bad in another, but when all is said and done, all things are necessary, and it’s all good!

For, behold, the winter is past. The rain is over and gone. Song of Solomon 2:11

Why Do You Want To Know?

If you’re a golfer (or a want-to-be golfer, like me) you’ll understand the following story. If you don’t know anything about golf, you might want to skip down to paragraph two. A very well-known professional golfer was talking to a typical duffer. The duffer asked the professional, “How do you make the ball spin and come back toward the hole when hitting an approach shot to the green.” The pro golfer asked the duffer, “How often do you hit the green with your approach shot?” The duffer said, “Hardly ever.” The pro said, “Then why do you want to know?”

This can also be true in our spiritual lives. We puzzle over details we don’t understand, when we haven’t yet mastered the simplest things. I believe God will increase our wisdom as we are ready to receive, moving us toward Him at a pace He knows will suit us, until one day we understand Him and His ways to the extent He needs us to. We don’t need to know all the details, just what it takes to accomplish our part of God’s plan.

For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; 1 Corinthians 12:8

It Is That Simple

Many times, we have difficulty following God and becoming who He intends for us to be because we think we have to do things to impress Him. I’m convinced all God wants us to do is love Him, and when we love Him it opens our hearts so He’s able to fill us with His love and we can accomplish our part of His plan.

Many of you are probably shaking your heads and saying, “It’s just not that simple”. I think it is. I believe we can be so full of love for God we won’t be able to get enough of Him. With each passing day, we will seek more, trust more, and do more for God. Not because we choose to, but because the love of God within us, given to us when we received His grace, causes us to.

Through him and for his names sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. Romans 1:5
