One of His

I’m about half finished writing a new book of encouragements I plan to publish sometime this year. I’d already decided to title the book, “One of His”, and as I finished writing the following entry this morning, I said, “And, there it is.” I plan to put the following on the back of the book jacket:

~~~~~
I have tested the presence of God; I have ignored it, denied it, and tried to pretend He wasn’t there. And yet, all the while, I could feel His presence. There have been times in my life when, even though I did not deserve it, He has shown Himself to me in wondrous ways. In spite of me, in spite of my failure to love Him, in spite of my walking arm-in-arm with demons of all type, He stayed with me; His love never wavering; His arms ever reaching to hold me. He would allow nothing to separate me from Him. I am convinced… I am One of His.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
No Strings, No Gimmicks
I’m not big on ritual; especially rituals designed by man. Jesus came to absolve us of those things, allowing us to please God by loving Him and not by the things we do. We are saved by grace, not by works.
Some of today’s religious leaders come up with things they try to persuade their followers to do, insisting those things are essential to living a “Christian” life and obtaining eternal life. I don’t think so!
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. Hebrews 13:9
Far and Beyond
It’s been said we only use a small portion of the abilities of our brain, and I think that’s probably true of our hearts, as well. I believe we’re capable of great achievements with our minds; and, likewise, I believe we’re capable of absorbing and giving much more love than we can possibly imagine.
I look forward to the day when I can fully comprehend God’s love. As of now, I feel I’ve only had a taste of it, and yet even that small portion overwhelms me.
But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him. Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. 1 John 2:5-6
My Dog Taught Me This
Our little dog, Dockers, passed away four years ago. She was seventeen years old, and we had watched her age with a sadness tinged with awe. She was nearly blind, almost deaf, and even her keen sense of smell had faded, but her love and loyalty to me and Sherry were as strong and unwavering as ever. Read the rest of this entry »
Deeper Than the Deepest Ocean
There are galaxies full of stars and unknown things so far out in space we may never see them, even with all the technology we command. Space is beyond measure and infinite, but compared to God’s love, you could put it all on the head of a pin. Read the rest of this entry »
God’s Peace
It’s Sunday morning and I’m at the lake, getting ready to head back to College Station. So, I thought I’d send you a little sermon, of sorts, to start your day. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you have an awesome day! Read the rest of this entry »
