If It Feels Like…

So… you ask a weather forecaster what the temperature is, and he/she walks outside to see what it “feels” like? Wouldn’t their estimation be skewed by what they’re wearing at the time? I mean… if it’s 25, and they walk out there wearing a swimsuit, THEN it’s definitely gonna FEEL LIKE 18! Read the rest of this entry »

Just A Little Tantrum!

Mother Nature threw one of her little tantrums here yesterday afternoon; two inches of rain in about thirty minutes, and much of

30 minutes worth!

30 minutes worth!

the time it was coming sideways! I always wonder how the rain gauge catches the rain when it’s going sideways. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Talk About Ducks

I’m headed to Phoenix this morning for a class reunion, so let’s talk about ducks… and heat indexes.

If it looks like a duck... :)

Well, Blow Me Down!

Almost anywhere you live there is something challenging about the weather. Some places are brutally cold in winter, others are scorching hot in the summer, some are prone to flooding, and still others are constantly on the lookout for hurricanes when they’re in season. But tornado alley takes the prize. For the life of me, I don’t know why people live there, and I think a lot of folks in Oklahoma City will agree with me on that these days. The Texas panhandle is at the lower end of tornado alley. I was born there, but ain’t no way I’m going back. Read the rest of this entry »

Too Much Lemon

Its tornado season in the midwest, and Oklahoma City got hit hard again last night. Mom and Ray live there, and they are spending far too many nights in the storm shelter this spring. They will be moving to east Texas soon, and I’ll sure be glad when they get here! Read the rest of this entry »

We Made A Big Splash!

It’s been so long since we’ve had any rain, this story seems like science fiction, but the rain will come, and this story is true. I know times are rough out in Spicewood right now, what with the wildfires and all, so I hope this little tail can make folks out there smile for a moment. Read the rest of this entry »

Gimme Back My Rain!

And that’s another thing! Who told these weather clowns they could predict rain then un-predict it? That should be a weather  foul (as opposed to foul weather) and possibly a fine! You know what I’m sayin’? Read the rest of this entry »

If It Feels Like A Duck?

Surely you have heard the saying, “If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.” The saying is commonly used to counter arguments that something is not what it appears to be. So what’s up with the heat index? Read the rest of this entry »

This Ain’t Funny, Dad!

I’ve noticed some of my FaceBook friends who live in colder climates have been complaining about the weather lately. It’s hot as the dickens here in College Station, Texas–supposed to hit 101 today–and that’s just how I like it. Although, I have been hinting to Sherry that our next move should probably be to a first-floor apartment with a sliding glass back door that opens onto the pool area. Just sayin… But this story is about one of those late spring snowfalls some of you have mentioned lately. Read the rest of this entry »

We Made A Big Splash!

This little story fits nicely with the “10% Chance of Rain” post I had on the blog earlier today. It’s about rain and golf, two things that do not mix well.

Sherry normally did not ride along with me when I played golf out at Spicewood Beach. It was pretty much a guy thing, it was hot outside, and she was content to stay in the air conditioned house most days. For whatever reason, she decided to accompany me one hot summer afternoon. I don’t recall the forecast for that particular day, but it decided to rain. Read the rest of this entry »
