Angels and Such

pennies from heavenIn 1998, I wrote a poem, Pennies From Heaven, about how angels toss pennies down from heaven to cheer us up, or just to show us they’re thinking of us. Of course, it’s not real. Or is it?

Maybe angels don’t put pennies in our path, but I think it’s okay to imagine they do. If something—anything—gives us hope and encourages us to keep going in a tough time, then perhaps it’s God’s way of giving us the nudge we need to get through the storms we find ourselves in. Or, even when things are okay, maybe it’s just a little something to strengthen our faith and remind us He’s there.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7

Pennies from Heaven

 I found a penny today

Just laying on the ground

But it’s not just a penny

This little coin I’ve found

.

Found pennies come from heaven

That’s what my Grandpa told me

He said, “Angels toss them down”

Oh, how I loved that story

 .

He said when an angel misses you

They toss a penny down

Sometimes just to cheer you up

To make a smile out of a frown

 .

So don’t pass by that penny

When you’re feeling blue

It may be a Penny from Heaven

That an Angel’s tossed to you

Be Cool

Doesn’t it feel awesome on a hot summer day when a cloud drifts in front of the sun and tempers its blazing heat? Likewise, when we are in the heat of our daily battles, the shadow of God’s love is a wonderfully refreshing thing. But the greater thing is, we don’t have to wait for God’s shadow to pass over us; we can slip into the shade of it anytime we want. In fact, we can dwell there constantly.

Unfortunately, we tend to rush ahead of God’s plans for our lives, putting ourselves smack dab in the middle of life’s troubles.

be still - rest

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

The Same Thing Only Different

There are times—one moment to the next—where something can look different. Maybe it’s the way the light hits it. A table top looks clean, then the sun peeks through a window, revealing old stains and a light layer of dust.

I sometimes wonder how we must look when God’s light shines on us.

But… He loved us even before we knew Him, and the light of his love does not reveal the stains of our past.

to wash us clean

This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10

You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet!

crepes 1 Aug 2016 quoteSometimes we anticipate an event and when it finally arrives, it isn’t as exciting and wonderful as we thought it would be. We’ve all been there and done that when it comes to things not living up to the hype, but to see God… Wow! To have God smile and say, “Welcome home. I love you so much!” The thought fills me with inexpressible and glorious joy! Read the rest of this entry »

Got a Minute?

crepes 8-6-2016 quote

I believe loving God leads to eternal life with Him, but I also believe loving Him is the key to happiness. I also believe when we make loving God our first priority we unlock a treasure chest of knowledge and understanding that is full of wonders. Read the rest of this entry »

The Wonderful Circle of Love

We did not earn reconciliation; it’s a gift from God through Jesus, and all we did was receive His gift. This is one of the most important principles of Christianity; we cannot earn our salvation, but need merely accept it. We cannot do our way into God’s grace.

We must merely thank God, seek Him, receive His love, and watch as our love for Him grows with every new revelation He presents to us. And all the while, we should remain joyful and at peace as we seek God. The amazing thing is, the more we seek Him, the more peace and joy He gives to us.

It’s a wonderful circle of love; lake 7-30-2016 quote

Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:11

He’ll Come Around

When I was very young I knew nothing of God, but then I was taken to Sunday school and church. When I was ten years old I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and began to learn about Him and God. Then, as I got older, God and Jesus became less important to me, I stopped going to church and slipped easily into a life of sin. I was, though I didn’t realize it, God’s enemy. Never Let Go

As we go through this life, people come and go. Some stay for but a moment, and others stay for varying lengths of time. Some, though their time in our life be brief, leave a lasting impression on our hearts and lives.

With the advent of the Internet and social media, the phenomenon has taken on a whole new dimension. People touch our lives, and we touch their lives, when in many cases we will never actually see or touch them.

Kathryn Daugherty—a novelist—is one such person. We’ve never met, but last September she asked my permission to include my poem, Pennies From Heaven, in her novel, A Case of Hearts. Of course, I said yes, as I was thrilled someone would want to include one of my poems in their book.

This past summer, Kathryn contacted me again; she was preparing to publish a second novel, She Promised Her Heart, and wanted to know if I could write a poem to put in the book! How cool is that? Well, again, I was thrilled, and penned what I think is a pretty good poem that compliments the story she tells in her new novel. I hope you like the poem, and I hope you’ll buy a copy of She Promised Her Heart; I think it’s going to be best seller!

A Thousand Times, Then Wow!

It seems we often take so much God has done for granted. The world around us is full of wondrous things, and yet we walk through it each day, oblivious to most of them. I dare say if we were to compile a list of wonderful things God has created or done, we would not be able to complete it in our lifetime. Read the rest of this entry »

What Are the Odds?

I spend 3-4 days a week in College Station, and I try to get in at least one three-mile walk a day–more if I can. I sometimes take those walks in one of the many beautiful parks, but more often than not, I walk the Highway 6 access road right outside the RV park we stay in. On my walk this morning, I was thinking about my poem, Pennies From Heaven, and lo and behold, I glanced down, and there was  a penny beside the road; kind of an odd place to find one, although I’ve found them in stranger places. Of course, it made me smile, and I even thought to take a picture of it before picking it up. When I reached the mile and a half turn-around spot, I was quite shocked to see another penny on the shoulder of the road. What are the odds?
